This special annual service is held to show our deep gratitude to the many people who helped pass down the Buddha’s teachings to us. Rather than a memorial for ancestors\, Eitaikyo expresses our wish that the Nembutsu and the Dharma will continue to be shared at this temple for many years to come. \nTo support this wish\, we keep a special Eitaikyo Book at the temple. It contains the names of people or families who have made a special donation to support this tradition. With a donation of $500 or more\, your name – or the name of a loved one – can be added to the Eitaikyo Book. The book is placed near the alter and is honoured during the Eitaikyo service each year. Donations help maintain the Naijin (alter area)\, including the care and purchae of ritual items used in our services. This year\, with the generoud contributions for Eitaikyo\, we were able to purchase two tables for the Naijin in commemoration of TBC’s 80th anniversary. Since these tables must be imprted from Japan\, the shipping costs are considerably higher than originally expected. At this event\, we steam mochi gome (glutenous rice)\, pound the rice to a uniform consistency and form it to make Komochi\, Osonae (Okagami) and anko mochi. \nTo those who have generously volunteered in the past\, we hope you will be able to assist us again! SUMMARY:Mochi Tsuki - Afternoon Session
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome and no experience is needed. Volunteers will receive a complimentary bag of Komochi. Lunch will also be provided. Please RSVP to joanne@kataoka.ca with the following information: \n\nYour name and the names of your family or firends who will also be attending\nLunch preference (regular or vegan)\n\nAdditional things to note: \n\nMasking is mandatory\nRecommended age range for participation is 10 and up\n\nMochi tsuki is an important annual fundrasing event at the temple. At this event\, we steam mochi gome (glutenous rice)\, pound the rice to a uniform consistency and form it to make Komochi\, Osonae (Okagami) and anko mochi. \nTo those who have generously volunteered in the past\, we hope you will be able to assist us again! For those of you who have not previously attended mochi tsuki\, we want to invite you to take part and we hope that you will consider making this event a part of your year end tradition. \nIf you would like to order mochi\, please email joanne@kataoka.ca or call 647-793-4278. \nWe hope to see you there!!
