A service is a time when Sangha members and friends gather at the temple to listen to the Dharma, the Buddhist teachings. Services include a Dharma Talk by the minister, and rituals that prepare us to listen to and receive the Dharma. Many of the rituals are performed by the minister and Sangha together. Those who attend are welcome to participate in all aspects of the service that they feel comfortable with. Except for private weddings, private funerals and memorial observances, weekly temple services are open to everyone. Unless otherwise indicated, all services are in English and free, although donations are greatly appreciated.
TBC holds a weekly English service on Sunday mornings, starting from 11AM. The first Sunday of every month is dedicated to the monthly memorial – Shotsuki – service in which we remember those who have passed away that month in years past. A separate Shotsuki service conducted in Japanese is held at 1PM following the English service.
Services for children. Kids Sangha service starts at 10:15 AM on the first and third Sundays of the month. The service takes place in the Hondo (main hall) followed by some time in the classroom downstairs where parent-teachers lead a lesson and activity related to the theme of the month.
