The Sangha group was predominantly a male group established in 1950 by young Nisei (second generation) men who took on a leadership role at the Temple. Early on, this group established and implemented key ideas that enabled the Temple to thrive and grow over time.
Such innovations included;
- Incorporating TBC in 1952
- Building Camp Lumbini (3 cottages) at Wasaga Beach in 1964. To this day, our youth and young adult groups enjoy summer camp there every year and Temple members can rent out the cottages with family and friends during the Summer months
- Management of the Youth Building Fund and establishment of the pledge system and a group service system.
Today, the Sangha Volunteer Group welcomes everyone and is dedicated to hosting events and sponsoring projects that celebrate the history of our Temple! Our goal is to create an inviting atmosphere where families can come together, fostering a sense of community and encouraging more families to attend our Temple.
TBC Sangha Volunteer Group has been privileged to provide volunteer support and organize key events at our Temple. These include annual events like:
- Sangha Day
- Hanamatsuri Family Banquet
- Pancake Lunch
- Mochi Tsuki
In addition, we have spearheaded special projects, such as setting up the video broadcasting system for our Zoom services, to better connect with our community.

We hold monthly planning meetings, typically on the second Sunday after service. Lunch is served, and we would love for you to join us if you can. For those who are unable to attend in person, we also offer Zoom participation. Please contact us at Joanne@Kataoka.ca for the Zoom link.
