Get Ready to Dance! Bon Odori Practices Begin April 29th

Spring is here—and that means it’s time to join us for Bon Odori practice at the Toronto Buddhist Church!

Starting Tuesday, April 29, 2025, practices will be held every Tuesday and Friday evening from 8:00 – 9:30 PM. Everyone is welcome—men, women, and children, no experience needed! Each session includes step-by-step instructions, so whether you’re new or returning, you’ll feel right at home. We recommend joining early on, as new dances are introduced throughout the season.

🌸 Why We Dance
Bon Odori is part of Obon, a meaningful Japanese Buddhist tradition to honour and remember our ancestors. The dances are simple, rhythmic, and joyful—ranging from traditional Japanese folk dances to movements created for modern songs.

The Bon Odori celebration will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, following the Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival).

Come dance, connect with the community, and carry on a beautiful tradition together. For more information, please contact the Toronto Buddhist Church.
