Welcoming Our Youngest Members on May 4: Shosanshiki – First Visitation Ceremony

The Shosanshiki, or First Visitation Ceremony to the Sangha, is a beautiful tradition that marks a child’s formal welcome into the Buddhist community. While this ceremony has traditionally been held for newborns, we are happy to now open it to children of all ages who wish to take their first step on the path to the truth of Amida Buddha. This year’s ceremony is taking place on May 4.

Through Shosanshiki, each child is lovingly introduced to the Sangha—the Buddhist community—and celebrated as they begin their spiritual journey. It is a touching moment for families and the entire temple community to come together in support and joy.

🌸 Who Can Participate?

  • Any child or youth who wishes to be recognized and welcomed
  • This includes newborns, toddlers, and older children who have not yet taken part in the ceremony
